In order to present the numerous events as well as collection and exhibition objects of a museum with three exhibition sites on its website in an appealing way, we have developed a series of TYPO3 extensions that, after a simple XML import, output the various data according to the customer's wishes. First, the TYPO3 extension "a7xmlimport" offers a backend module for this purpose, through which the data records can be imported with just a few clicks into TYPO3 as an XML file. Our client exports this data in advance from the internal database solution myColex, which is used, among other things, for computer-aided collection documentation and event management.
The other extensions developed by a7digital output this data appropriately on various pages of the trilingual museum website and also enable targeted filtering. For this purpose, various plug-ins offer the possibility to control the display by selecting categories. To this, categories of the TYPO3 core table "sys_category" are used extensively with many parent categories (such as venue, language, theme, event or admission type, etc.) and numerous associated child elements.
The TYPO3 extension "a7events" is responsible for the output of the museum's events. In addition to a list of current exhibitions, there is also an exhibition archive with a filter function, e.g. by language, venue or type. In the same clearly arranged presentation, there is also another list for the current programme, which also offers a filter, so that it is possible to search specifically for guided tours, concerts and other types of events, or for a certain theme or a guide. In addition to these imported data records, our client can create further events by hand, which are presented as appealing tiles in the desired order on selected pages. Here, the categories serve to control the output as well, for example on the page of one of the three exhibition sites, to present only the tiles concerning that specific site, while on the website's home page the tiles of all three sites are displayed. In addition to the categories, the a7events plug-ins offer numerous other setting options, for example with regard to sorting, the number of data records and the start and end times of the display, so that, for example, events that have already taken place are automatically no longer displayed on the website.
The TYPO3 extension "a7collection" also generates a list view of selected collection objects in a similar, appealing presentation. Of course, this extensive data stock can also be filtered by topic, year, a specific keyword or inventory number. While further information on the events can be unfolded in an accordion element, the details of the collection objects are each presented on an automatically generated single view page.
The TYPO3 extension "a7eguide" provides information on the museum's exhibited objects on a separate page. There is an eGuide for each exhibition site, which visitors can use to call up descriptions of the single exhibits also individually on their own mobile devices while touring the three sites. Depending on the museum, the objects can be called up specifically via the object number, the room or the group and, if necessary, further sub-options.
